National Mall and Monuments

Admire stunning landmarks in the heart of Washington, D.C.

Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, the National Mall and Memorial Parks features more than 80 historic structures and over 150 major named historic parks, squares, circles and triangles.

The towering Washington Monument, a stark white obelisk that anchors the heart of the National Mall, can be seen around the city. Standing nearly 170 meters tall, it offers visitors a spectacular 360-degree view of D.C. from its peak. To the west stands the Lincoln Memorial — which has made cameos in many films like Wedding Crashers and Forrest Gump — and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial stands to the south overlooking the Tidal Basin. The Mall is particularly beautiful when illuminated at night and when thousands of Japanese cherry trees burst into bloom around the Tidal Basin in early spring.
